A torrential downpour hit Florence, with over 45 millimeters of rain hitting the city in an hour. The water entered under a skylight in the room housing seven 17th-century paintings in the Uffizi Gallery, including Caravaggio's famous "Bacchus."

The leak caused some splashes that reached the external glass of the protective display case that houses the painting by the Lombard master.

Fortunately, subsequent checks ruled out any consequences for the works.

Despite the heavy rainfall, the hall will be regularly accessible to visitors starting tomorrow morning.
