A 24-year-old worker, originally from the province of Sassari , was seriously injured in an accident at work yesterday afternoon at the Far foundry in Gaggio Montano , in the Bologna area, a company specializing in the die-casting of aluminum alloy.
According to the reconstruction, the young man, hired on a temporary contract, was struck by a stamping machine, which fell on him, crushing his abdomen.
Rescued by 118, the 24-year-old was transported by helicopter to the Maggiore Hospital in Bologna, where he is in intensive care with a guarded prognosis.
The Carabinieri of Gaggio Montano and the officials of the Occupational Medicine of the Local Health Authority of Bologna intervened to carry out investigations and reconstruct the dynamics of the accident.
Following the incident, the FIM and FIOM unions have called a four-hour walkout strike for all shifts today, as a form of protest and awareness. The unions, expressing their sympathy for the worker involved and his family, are calling for an urgent investigation into the causes and circumstances of the accident and for the competent authorities to carry out all necessary investigations.
FIM and FIOM also request an urgent meeting with the company to verify safety conditions at the plant and identify any critical issues, ensuring an incident of this gravity cannot happen again.
