He lights a hearth in the house and a fire breaks out, 80 year old dies in the flames

An 80-year-old man - Mariano Bonanni - died in the night following a fire that broke out in his home in Alì Terme , in the province of Messina. The victim lived alone in a building in the rural area of the Sicilian town.

According to the first reconstructions, the fire was caused by the malfunctioning of the wood-burning hearth that the elderly man used to heat his home.

The firefighters intervened on the spot, who extinguished the flames and found the body of the elderly man lying on the ground, partially charred. An investigation by the police has been opened into the matter. The exact dynamics of what happened still remains to be verified.
