In that envelope, found on the street, there were more than 10 thousand euros in cash. 10,500 to be exact. But she didn't hesitate: she picked it up and took it to the carabinieri.

It happened in Gaggio Montano, a center in the Apennines, in the province of Bologna.

The protagonist of the gesture is a 51-year-old lady who lives in the town. After verifying that there were no documents or other traces useful to identify the owner in the envelope, she went to the barracks to deliver it to the carabinieri.

Within hours it was discovered that the nest egg had been lost by a 41-year-old merchant, who was going to the bank to make a deposit.

The carabinieri themselves, to whom the man turned to report the fact and ask for help, gave him the good news and returned the 10,500 euros.

It is not clear whether the lady received (as required by law) a reward for her disinterested civic sense.
