"The President Emeritus of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano , underwent surgery by the team of Professor Giuseppe Maria Ettorre at the Intercompany Department of the San Camillo-Forlanini and Inmi Spallanzani Company in Rome. This was announced by the same Institute. Spallanzani, in a note.

"The operation, conducted with a minimally invasive technique, was successful ", continues the statement released by the hospital.

"Currently - the doctors conclude - the patient is hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Inmi Spallanzani. The President is awake with a steady clinical picture . The prognosis remains confidential".

According to what Professor Ettorre reported to Ansa, the president was operated on on his abdomen: "He is fine, his conditions are compatible with those of a patient of his age". For the rest, maximum confidentiality, added Ettorre, who leaves other communications to the health facility.

Napolitano, 96 , had already undergone another delicate surgery 4 years ago , when, after suffering an illness, he was operated on the aorta , also in Rome, but at the San Camillo hospital.
