The twins Paola and Stefania Cappa, cousins of Chiara Poggi, were questioned in Milan as persons informed of the facts as part of the new investigation, now in its final stages, into the Garlasco crime .
Paola arrived shortly before 11:00 a.m. and was secretly ushered into the Montebello Carabinieri barracks to avoid the swarms of journalists, cameramen, and photographers. Her interrogation lasted approximately two hours. Her sister Stefania arrived shortly before 2:00 p.m. and left the barracks around 4:30 p.m., after two and a half hours of questioning.
The sisters were heard as witnesses as informed parties, therefore without their lawyers and without the right to remain silent . They were repeatedly approached, but never investigated, in the various inquiries into the murder of Chiara Poggi, their cousin, killed on August 13, 2007, in the family home in Garlasco.
Protagonists and seekers of visibility in the initial stages of the investigation, from the photomontage that portrayed them smiling with their cousin to Paola's suggestion to the Carabinieri that the killer was a rejected suitor of Chiara (precisely the motive hypothesized today by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office) . Then, after that summer, they disappeared and withdrew from the spotlight, declining every request for an interview. Stefania is now a lawyer, working in her father Ermanno's firm and married to Emanuele Arioldi, heir to Annina Rizzoli. Their marriage ended in Vanity Fair. Paola lives between Milan and Ibiza and is a food blogger.
Nothing has been disclosed regarding the contents of the interrogation, especially since tomorrow it's the turn of Marco Poggi, who will be heard as a witness in Mestre, and Andrea Sempio, the only suspect in the new investigation into the crime, who has been summoned to the Pavia Public Prosecutor's Office . The 38-year-old, their lawyers reported today, will exercise his right to remain silent.
For two reasons: first, because "the investigation is not concluded and the evidentiary framework to be addressed is incomplete." The defense has also commissioned a psychotherapist to prepare a "personality assessment" on Sempio. This action, according to lawyer Liborio Cataliotti, is one of the "prerequisites deemed appropriate before any potential questioning."
«We announce – said the lawyer – that he will avail himself of the right to remain silent, reserving the right to ask the prosecutors to summon him again to examine him after the outcome of this consultation» .
Personality counseling is an in-depth clinical assessment that helps delineate a person's personality structures. Unlike other psychological assessments, this type of counseling doesn't simply observe external behaviors, but delves into the way a person thinks and manages emotions. It also helps understand how Sempio might react to stress and whether his profile is compatible with the dynamics of the alleged crime.
