The appeal presented by the defense against the seizures ordered by the Turin prosecutor's office in the investigation which revolves around the inheritance of Gianni Agnelli was partially accepted. The review court, according to initial information, also ordered the return to the interested parties of part of the papers acquired by the financial police. The appeal was presented by the lawyers of John Elkann and the accountant Gianluca Ferrero.

The investigation by the Turin prosecutor's office was opened into the hypothesis of the crime of false declaration of income in relation to the tax treatment, for the years 2018 and 2019 , that Marella Caracciolo, wife of Gianni Agnelli, received from her daughter Margherita by virtue of agreements made in 2004 in the context of hereditary succession.

The defense claimed that the quantity of material taken over by the financial police was disproportionate to the crime hypothesis. The court partially annulled the search decree developed by the Prosecutor's Office. From reading the device it can be seen that the judges have kept in force the seizure of some documents relating to the properties of Marella Caracciolo (died on 23 February 2019 at the age of 92).

«We are obviously satisfied because a legal principle of which we were very convinced has been affirmed – the comment of the lawyers Paolo Siniscalchi, Federico Cecconi and Carlo Re, John Elkann's lawyers -. The court accepted our appeal almost entirely, ordering the return of almost all of the seized material. We maintain our tranquility and full confidence in the work of the magistrates."
