"As announced yesterday, this morning we met with the Glovo and Deliveroo platforms. In the meeting with Glovo, at our explicit request, we reached the decision to suspend the measures announced on contributions in order to be able to review them within a union discussion that will continue in the coming days, keeping at the center that workers have the possibility to choose to work but that it must be done in absolute safety". This is what Felsa Cisl communicates in a post on its social channels. Adding that "in the meeting with Deliveroo the same desire for discussion was shared for all the issues under attention in these days (and for us every day), including regional ordinances and the protocol on climate emergencies".
Companies are backtracking, therefore, after the bonus that had been announced in recent days and that had sparked controversy and a harsh reaction from the unions. In a communication sent to employees, the Cgil had denounced in recent days, Glovo reported bonuses of 2% for temperatures between 32 and 36 degrees, 4% between 36 and 40, 8% for temperatures above 40 degrees: increases that are equivalent to a few cents . The union had therefore written to Glovo underlining that "no compensation can justify working in conditions of extreme risk" and had asked to correct the communication: in the event of heat waves like those of these days, work would have to be suspended.
But Glovo, with a note released yesterday evening, had initially specified how the company guaranteed "each rider maximum freedom of choice on when and how to work, even in the presence of difficult weather conditions. In this context, the so-called bonus provided during periods of extreme heat was born as a compensatory measure and does not in any way represent an incentive to performance". Today, however, the backtracking with the commitment to re-address the issue within a union discussion that will continue in the coming days.
