A 15-year-old girl enrolled in the second year of a school in Southern Salento ended up in hospital yesterday on her first day of school, after drinking vodka she and other classmates had bought before entering class.

The spirits would have been placed in water bottles and sipped during lessons, perhaps for a social challenge. The fact is that the fifteen-year-old would have started to feel sick in the classroom and once helped by the teacher and taken to the bathroom she would have fainted so much that the intervention of 118 was necessary. Taken to the hospital in Tricase and kept for observation, she was then discharged this morning.

The school management immediately arranged for the students involved to take part in a mentoring program. They also arranged a series of social activities in the school and personal study with their classmates regarding alcohol addictions.
