"I believe there is a need to restore the truth about the facts that have been said in this phase, some reported in a generic way having not known the documents, and to intervene to protect a sacred institution such as the national Anti-Mafia prosecutor's office." Thus the Perugia prosecutor Raffaele Cantone in the Parliamentary Anti-Mafia Commission , heard regarding the investigation into the alleged dossiers and the collection of information on ministers, parliamentarians and VIPs which has sent the Italian political world into fibrillation, triggering bitter controversy.

At the center of the investigation are the accesses – deemed undue – to the databases by the financier Pasquale Striano . In this regard, Cantone explained: «The accesses are more than 800. From 1 January 2019 to 24 November 2022, Striano consulted 4,124 SOSs within the Siva database, a disproportionate number».

And again: «171 analysis sheets and 6 in-depth sheets followed by typing the name 1531 natural persons 74 legal persons. He searched for 1,123 people on the Serpico database, but there could be as many as three thousand searches, I'm talking about people. Then he carried out 1,947 searches on the Sdi database. We have over 10 thousand accesses and the number is destined to grow significantly ", added Cantone.

«The SOS market – he also highlighted to the Commission – has not stopped at all. We have sensational proof: during the first leak, a reference came out to an SOS regarding an entrepreneur who would have had dealings with the Minister of Defense, but that SOS had not been seen by Striano. There was someone who continued to sell the SOS under the counter . This investigation has been forwarded to the Rome prosecutor's office."

As for the reason for this immense amount of access to the databases, Cantone explained: «The fact that the press commissioned the information activities to a judicial police officer is an investigative hypothesis on which we hope to be proven wrong. There have been cases where we felt it was clear that there had been a fee to access the databases . We analyzed the names and subjects exposed in the media, in that long list of names a total of 165 accesses concerned VIPs and are the subjects of the indictment".
