The four perpetrators are accused of personal injury and theft, committed for trivial reasons and aggravated by racial hatred. The victim is a 25-year-old man of Libyan origin.
He was rescued and taken to the San Giovanni hospital, where he was found to have multiple fractures. The attack occurred on April 6 on board the Atac bus of the N201 line, near Piazza dell'Ara Coeli.
The four who got on the bus approached the Libyan passenger, who was sitting in his seat, and after surrounding him, they harassed him for no reason, insulted him, threatened him with racist phrases and intimidated any passenger who tried to make them desist.
At that point the 25-year-old Libyan moved to the opposite side of the bus but the gang, after having moved away and reached the opposite side of the bus , returned to attack the offended person, in particular one of its members spat on him and, at the hint of a reaction from the victim, the entire group of attackers savagely beat him with kicks and punches all over his body for over thirty seconds, until they hit him from behind and made him fall, then taking his watch and phone.
The "thirst for violence" continued even during the bus stop, when the attackers, who had initially gotten off, came back to attack the victim again.
The Carabinieri of the Rome-Quirinale Station, who intervened following a request to 112, began the investigation, immediately managing to identify some of the attackers, indicated by the first witnesses, including the driver of the bus, who courageously attempted to immediately provide assistance to the injured person and, subsequently, contributed effectively to the investigation.
By analyzing the bus's video surveillance footage, the Carabinieri were able to recognize the contribution of each of the participants in the attack.
