Anyone who wants to stay at work will be able to do so. Doctors and nurses employed in hospitals will be able to retire later, at 72 years of age.

The possibility, according to rumours, is contained in one of the amendments to the budget currently being examined by the Senate Budget Committee.

Even those who wear scrubs in the ward will therefore be able to remain in service for longer, beyond the age of 70.

The proposal triggered immediate debates and controversies, and the executive soon announced an about-face.

“The government will not present the amendment that gives medical managers the possibility of retiring at 72,” explained the Minister for Relations with Parliament Luca Ciriani. «Such an important topic a

this hour risks being the subject of too hasty a debate so the government considers re-presenting it on another occasion", added Ciriani.
