The alleged perpetrator of the sexual assault at Tor Tre Teste Park in Rome raped another woman two days after the first. The Carabinieri reconstructed the incident, taking a complaint from a 44-year-old woman in hospital. After being responsible for the assault last Sunday in Tor Tre Teste Park, the Gambian man—a 26-year-old with a residence permit for humanitarian reasons and a regular labor contract— allegedly raped another woman on Via Prenestina yesterday, the very day he was arrested by officers from Rome's Tor Tre Teste station, coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office, for the rape of the 60-year-old woman. The man later confessed, stating that he acted under the influence of drugs. Yesterday morning around 4:00 a.m., following a call to 112 from healthcare staff at the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome, Carabinieri from the Rome Monte Mario station responded to the emergency room, where a 44-year-old woman reported being sexually assaulted by a foreigner, described as a black man.
The woman reported to the police that, while waiting for a bus on Via Prenestina, she was approached by a man who, under the pretense of asking for a cigarette, then forcibly dragged her into an alley over a pile of garbage, raping her. Thanks to the detailed complaint provided by the victim, including a description of the clothing worn by the attacker, the Carabinieri were able to piece together a profile of the man and trace it to the same person who was later arrested yesterday by the officers from Rome's Tor Tre Teste unit and the Rome Casilina unit. He faces serious charges of robbery and sexual assault against the 60-year-old woman, which occurred Sunday morning in Tor Tre Teste park. The second woman identified him with certainty from photographs.
The Carabinieri, acting on orders from the Prosecutor's Office, therefore charged him as they are seriously suspected of being the perpetrator of the additional sexual assault. The Gambian man has been in Italy since 2016 and obtained a residence permit in 2024. He stayed at the home of a fellow Gambian in Nettuno, a seaside town on the outskirts of Rome, and worked as a laborer for a company in Guidonia, also on the outskirts of the capital. He often frequented the Termini Station area, where he was recognized and arrested yesterday. On Sunday morning, after the rape, he had also gone to Termini Station and taken a bus to the center of Rome, as confirmed by surveillance footage. The Carabinieri reviewed hours of recordings to reconstruct his route, and once they understood his movements, they concentrated their search on the Tor Tre Teste and Termini areas. The investigation focused in particular on his clothing, as the videos failed to reveal any physical features of the man. The young man was identified by the Carabinieri on Via Giolitti outside Termini station thanks to his shoes and cap, the same ones he was wearing at the time of the rape. This was confirmed by the victim, who identified him with certainty, two days after the first assault.
