Massimo Moratti, former president of Inter Milan and Saras, is in intensive care at Humanitas Hospital in Rozzano, just outside Milan, suffering from pneumonia. His condition is reportedly serious: he was intubated and struggling to breathe on his own.
For years, Moratti had ties to Sardinia and Saras, the Sarroch-based oil company founded by his father Angelo in 1962 , of which he had been president since 2018. Just over twelve months ago, at the beginning of 2024, he sold the group to the Dutch company Vitol.
Moratti, who turned 80 on May 16, is also a key figure in the world of football. On February 18, 1995, he took over Inter from Ernesto Pellegrini and managed the Nerazzurri club—as owner and, for two different periods, as president—until 2013, when he sold the club to Indonesian Erick Thohir. It was he who, in 1997, acquired Ronaldo from Barcelona.
