Twenty years and 4 months in prison: this is the sentence imposed by the Crotone investigating judge on Nicolò Passalacqua, the 23-year-old accused of attempted murder aggravated by premeditation and futile reasons for the attack on Davide Ferrerio, which took place in Crotone on 11 August 2022 .
The 21-year-old from Bologna has been in an irreversible coma since then and is hospitalized in a facility in Bologna. The prosecutor Pasquale Festa had asked for a 20-year sentence while the defense had requested the declassification of the crime from attempted murder to very serious injuries.
" The state has responded, it hasn't left us alone ," is the comment of the victim's mother. “A little justice has been done – he added -. The pain is so excruciating, inhuman, absurd that I can't think of anything else because there's nothing. There is simply a boy, a prince because he was our little prince, whose life was unnecessarily taken. Now there will be the trial of the principal and her partner. I hope that they too will be sentenced to an exemplary sentence ».
Even Alessandro, David's brother, says he is "satisfied" with the sentence. « With the abbreviated procedure, a sentence of 20 years and 4 months for attempted murder is an important sentence. But David won't be able to give us back because I miss him so much . I would gladly exchange the freedom of Passalacqua for my brother's life».
The Crotone investigating judge has also ordered compensation of 1.3 million in favor of Davide and a provisional payment of 200,000 euros each for his parents and brother . On the other hand, the request for compensation for image damage advanced by the municipality and province of Crotone and by the municipality of Bologna was rejected.
« It is the maximum answer that a judge could give in the face of what is the charge and the chosen rite. Even having fully accepted our request for compensation gives the sense of a strong response from a civilized country against senseless brutality and this rebuilds a minimum of serenity», says the lawyer Gabriele Bordoni, defender of Davide's family.
