"A perfect storm has arisen in China." Health Minister Orazio Schillaci said this during the Senate briefing on the Covid situation following the emergency triggered by the new wave of infections and victims in the People's Republic.

Schillaci also tried to explain the causes of this new Chinese "storm": "At the end of November, only 4 million cases of Covid were reported in China, compared to a population of one and a half billion people, but the embankment of vaccination did not work for several reasons. That is, few vaccinations performed compared to the total number of citizens, a low level of protection conferred by the vaccines used, which were different from those used in Western countries, a reduced number of elderly and frail people vaccinated, moreover with few doses of recall".

The minister listed the measures adopted by the Meloni government after the first alarm bells. That is: swabs at airports and those entering Italy from China will have to present certification that they have undergone a molecular test in the 72 hours prior to entering our country, or, in the 48 hours prior, an antigen test. It is also mandatory to undergo an antigen test upon arrival at the airport or if this is not possible within 48 hours. And in case of positivity, the obligation to immediately undergo the molecular test for sequencing and fiduciary isolation with final test.

"I have signed - Schillaci also announced during the information - the extension of the use of masks in health care facilities and in the RSA until next April 30 ".

As for the first tests on cases detected entering China, the minister explained that these are variants and subvariants linked to the already known Omicron.

Meanwhile, from the ECDC, the EU Agency for Diseases , warns that European countries "have relatively high levels of immunization and vaccination" and "the variants circulating in China are already circulating in the EU", therefore the measure of test for those arriving from China "is not necessary at the level of the European Union as a whole".
