Checks at the port: 110 kilos of pure cocaine seized

Over a quintal of cocaine was seized at the port of Catania.

The drug was discovered by the Financial Police of the Provincial Command and by officials of the Customs and Monopoly Agency during the checks on some containers arrived from South America on a ship carrying tropical fruit from Ecuador.

Under the roof, inside the insulation of the refrigerated container, 96 sticks of pure cocaine were found for a total of over 110 kg. "The subsequent analysis activities have, moreover, made it possible to ascertain a very high percentage of purity of over 80%. For these reasons, retail sales would have made it possible to obtain over 12 million euros ", explain the investigators.
