Carlo Fumagalli, 49, was arrested and was held responsible for the murder of his wife, 44-year-old Romina Vento, who died after the car he was traveling in ended up in the waters of the Adda river.

Voluntary homicide aggravated the accusation against the man, who according to investigators jumped on purpose with his white Peugeot into the river late yesterday evening. It seems that the couple was in crisis and the woman had decided to leave him.

Romina Vento's body was recovered during the night by divers from Treviglio in the territory of Fara Gera d'Adda (Bergamo), about 300 meters from the car. Her husband who was with her in the car saved himself by swimming for the shore. He was found about three hours later while wandering in Vaprio d'Adda: taken to the barracks and put under pressure for the whole night, he was arrested and taken to prison.

Some eyewitnesses who alerted the rescue saw the car passing at high speed in the gap between the two sections of the guard rail of the road that runs along the Adda, launching into the river bed. They also heard a woman asking for help and then the man who, swimming to shore, disappeared among the thick vegetation.

The body of the victim, recovered from the water, will be subjected to an autopsy to clarify the causes of death. The car, on the other hand, was seized and entrusted to the Scientific.

The couple's two children, aged 10 and 15, were both at home. The oldest learned about the tragedy when she saw a photo of the car in the river on social media.
