After being arrested on 8 April on charges of killing his wife , Giampaolo Amato, a 64-year-old from Bologna, former Virtus doctor, has now received a new personal precautionary measure in prison relating to the death of his mother-in-law.

It was carried out by the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit.

During the investigations, serious indications of guilt emerged against the man also for the death of his mother-in-law, which occurred on the night between 8 and 9 October 2021. The same substances were found on the body (a benzodiazepine and a hospital anesthetic ) found on the body of the doctor's daughter and wife.

The military reconstructed the suspect's movements on the night of the murder through the technical analysis of the technological devices he used and to ascertain the doctor's knowledge of the use of the benzodiazepine.

It was October 31, 2021 when 118 operators intervened in an apartment in the Murri area to rescue a 62-year-old, found unconscious by her husband and later found dead. The cause of the death was the man's malicious administration of two drugs, a benzodiazepine and a hospital anaesthetic. During the investigations conducted by the Carabinieri, it emerged that, already a few years earlier, the woman had been subjected to other benzodiazepine administrations without her knowledge, which were presumed to be attributable to her husband and never reported, which had caused several episodes of malaise and narcolepsy. Last April 8, the soldiers of the Bologna Investigative Unit showed up at the home of the Bolognese doctor and, after notifying him of the precautionary measure, arrested him and took him to prison.
