The first degree trial for the attack by neo-fascists on the CGIL which took place on 9 October 2021 has reached its final stages when a procession, on the sidelines of a demonstration against the Government's anti-Covid measures, reached the CGIL headquarters, attacking and devastating it.

The prosecution sought seven convictions. The heaviest, 10 and a half years in prison, against the historic leaders of Forza Nuova Roberto Fiore and Giuliano Castellino , who had "a primary role" in what was defined as an "urban guerrilla".

Against the accused, depending on their positions, the Capitoline Prosecutor's Office contests the crimes of incitement to commit crime, devastation and multi-aggravated resistance . For the other positions, the representative of the prosecution requested a sentence of 10 and a half years for Luigi Aronica, a figure linked to far-right movements, and 9 years and 6 months for Pamela Testa (formerly Forza Nuova). Nine years asked for Luca Castellini, Salvatore Lubrano and Lorenzo Franceschi .

Prosecutor Gianfederica Dito did not mince her words in reconstructing what happened that day: a city put "on fire" for many hours, "a senseless and unscrupulous action carried out by reckless people who hit a symbol of workers and democracy" , an «urban guerrilla war that has upset the normal functioning of city life» .

«It emerges from the videos that have crystallized the facts – said the prosecutor – that we are in the presence of dramatic and bloody events with the tragic epilogue of the devastation of the union headquarters. Arriving at the union headquarters, it was the police officers themselves, despite being used to managing public order, who told us about a situation they had never seen before in which they themselves were afraid ."

The version provided by the defendants, however, was "embarrassing and surreal", as they reported their desire "to do a simple sit in" .

Forza Nuova for its part defines the prosecution's requests as "absurd" .

The ruling is expected on December 20th . For the attack on the union headquarters in Corso d'Italia, some suspects chose the abbreviated procedure. For them, in July, the Court of Appeal confirmed 11 convictions. In particular, the six-year prison sentence for Fabio Corradetti, son of the partner of Giuliano Castellino, Roman leader of Forza Nuova, and for Massimiliano Ursino, Palermo leader of the far-right movement. For Claudio Toia, belonging to the Juventus ultras group "Antichi valori", he was sentenced to 5 years and four months.
