A one-and-a-half-year-old child died at the Catanzaro hospital, while four other children attending the same Tropea daycare center as the little victim were hospitalized, according to health sources, with similar symptoms, possibly attributable to a bacterial infection. Three have been discharged, and one remains hospitalized in Catanzaro. The Vibo Valentia Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the matter.

The parents filed a complaint with the police, and the child's medical records were seized. The judiciary also ordered the seizure of the body and will arrange for an autopsy in the coming hours.

The child, Alessio Pio, was initially hospitalized in a health facility in Vibo Valentia. Given the deterioration of his clinical condition, he was transferred to the regional capital, which occurred yesterday morning. Once he arrived in Catanzaro, according to reports, the child showed suspected sepsis. Despite the efforts of medical staff and every attempt at intervention, nothing could be done. According to medical sources, in addition to the young victim, four other children attending the same daycare center in Tropea were hospitalized with similar symptoms. Three have been discharged, while one remains hospitalized in Catanzaro.

Given the sensitive nature of the case regarding her health, no further information is currently being released. Meanwhile, the Vibo Valentia Health Authority (ASP) is also taking action. An emergency meeting is currently underway between Special Commissioner Angelo Vittorio Sestito and his closest collaborators to try to understand all the individual aspects of the matter. Sestito confirmed that the nursery sent a certified email (PEC) when the first problems arose to report the issue and request clarification on how to proceed.
