An eight-month-old girl taken to hospital after coming into contact with acid or disinfectant residues present in the holy water used during a baptism ceremony.
It happened in the province of Messina and what happened obviously scared parents and family members. Fortunately, however, the little girl was discharged without serious consequences.
According to what was reported by the Gazzetta del Sud, it was an uncle of the little girl who realized that something was wrong, who during the ritual felt a burning sensation after coming into contact with the baptismal water. A few drops also fell on the child's head and neck, with the "affected" parts immediately reddening. The little girl was therefore rushed to the Messina Polyclinic where she received first aid.
Investigations by the Carabinieri revealed that one of the parish priest's collaborators had inadvertently filled the baptismal font with a bottle that contained acid or disinfectant residues.
The family did not file a complaint, believing that the incident was the result of carelessness committed in total good faith.
