Tragic accident this morning on the track of the Nardò Technical Center, the Porsche-owned testing center located in Salento.

A test driver employed by an external company, Mattia Ottaviano, 36 years old from Tuglie (Lecce), lost his life while riding a motorcycle .

Ottaviano was testing a Ducati when, for reasons still under investigation, he rear-ended a Porsche Panamera , whose test rider was injured. The 36-year-old from Salento was thrown from the vehicle several meters away, his injuries too serious. The motorcycle caught fire in the crash.

Police, local police and the prosecutor on duty of the Court of Lecce, Alessandro Prontera, were on site and opened a case.

All activities on the track have been suspended. The Porsche plant in Nardò covers a total area of 700 hectares, and offers a large variety of test tracks, to guarantee a wide range of testing possibilities. «All the tracks - it is written on the circuit's website - are characterized by high standards of safety and confidentiality» .

«While we are in a meeting in the Prefecture for prevention and respect for health and safety, yet another death of a worker from a subcontracted company. We can't take it anymore. Thats enough! The Government does not issue communiqués of condolence but rather laws to protect the lives of those who work. You have to live and not die from work", says Valentina Fragassi, general secretary of the CGIL Lecce.
