The balance of the explosion worsened followed by a fire that took place yesterday morning, just before 8, in Pinerolo in the Turin area. Two victims: husband and wife.

The roar occurred, probably due to a gas leak, in a building in Piazza Sabin which houses 12 apartments.

Maria Rosa Fiore, 84, died of charred under the rubble of her house, on the third and top floor. Her husband Dario Lisdero, who just yesterday celebrated his 74th birthday, died instead at the CTO hospital in Turin, where he was transported by helicopter with first and second degree burns on 80% of his body.

"I had just woken up, I fell to the ground. It felt like an earthquake," said an old woman with her coat hastily worn over her nightgown. "The blast blew the window panes, we were so scared," said another local resident. "I went out on the balcony - he added - there was smoke, you couldn't see anything. When my wife and I understood what had happened, we dressed the children and ran off into the street".

In addition to the firefighters and rescuers, the newly re-elected mayor, Luca Salvai, also arrived on site. "There was a gas leak that saturated a room, from which the explosion probably started", confirmed the mayor, stating that "the dynamics are not yet completely clear, and there is the judiciary that he is making his remarks ".

There are about twenty displaced persons.
