Claudio Mandia was "subjected to unimaginable treatment by the administration" of the institute he was attending in New York.

This is the accusation of the relatives of the 17-year-old from Salerno found dead in college: they are "shocked and destroyed" by what they call "a senseless death", explaining that "a full investigation is underway" and announcing that they intend to take "appropriate action".

The boy, who died between Thursday and Friday night, would have turned 18 on Saturday. The family had joined him precisely to celebrate him, but when his parents Mauro Mandia and Elisabetta Benesatto - who in Battipaglia manage a company that exports pizza and frozen products to America - landed they received the terrible news.

"Claudio was not sick, he was very healthy. The doctors will have to find out what happened," said his uncle Pietro Benesatto. The US investigators, in fact, have not dissolved the reservations and are waiting to know the outcome of the autopsy to ascertain the reasons for the death. Benesatto also ruled out that his nephew was attacked or injured. So the death would be attributable to natural causes. The young man dreamed of becoming a manager and working in the field of economics and that is why he had decided to go to the United States. "These are things that should never happen, especially at a young age", remarked Cecilia Francese, the mayor of Battipaglia.

The police have listened to the peers who are staying in the college attended by the young man to reconstruct the episode and the last hours of the student's life, according to what is learned spent at a party.

During the day, the Municipality of Battipaglia had contact with the Italian Consulate, to which it sent all the necessary documents to be able to organize the return of the body from the United States. It is not yet clear, however, how long it will take to complete the bureaucratic documents and receive the final results of the autopsy.
