The bipartisan group of senators working on weapons reform has reached a preliminary agreement.

The agreement provides for a strengthening of controls for the purchases of guns and rifles, especially for those under 21, and an increase in funds for the safety of schools . In addition, it encourages US states to adopt " red flag " laws, rules that allow police and families to ask a state court to temporarily remove the weapons of someone who could be dangerous to themselves and others.

No squeeze, therefore , on assault weapons . Thousands of people have been demonstrating in American cities for days asking for a tightening on the second amendment after yet another massacre in a school, that of Uvalde in Texas , where 19 children and two teachers were killed.

Biden yesterday, admitting to possessing two rifles, also asked Congress to "ban assault weapons, tighten controls and remove immunity for arms manufacturers." Today the American president speaks of an "important step in the right direction", even if the agreement reached by the senators " does not have everything I consider necessary ". And he assures: “I will sign the provision, the sooner it arrives on my table, the sooner I can sign it”.
