Little Sohail Ahmadi, a newborn Afghan missing for months after becoming the protagonist of the symbol photo during the crisis at Kabul airport, was reunited with his family when he was entrusted by his parents to a US Marine during the chaotic withdrawal of troops last summer. .

The little boy, the BBC said, was delivered to his grandfather yesterday: "We are celebrating and singing, it looks like a wedding party," said the man who is now in the US with the rest of the family. His escape from Afghanistan was also not easy, he had traveled from the distant province of Badakhshan to Kabul to be able to leave the country.

In recent months, the child has been with Hamid Safi, a 29-year-old taxi driver from Kabul who has decided to take care of him. The Ahmadis, parents of the child, were at Kabul airport on 19 August in an attempt to leave Afghanistan after the Taliban took power. Overwhelmed by the crowd, they entrusted the newborn to a US Marine for fear that he would be crushed by the crowd.

They thought they could get to the entrance early to take him back with them, but have not heard from his son since. The couple was evacuated with their other children aged 17, 9, 6 and 3, managing to reach Fort Bliss in Texas, after a long journey with stops first in Qatar and then in Germany. Since then, numerous appeals have been launched to find the child.
