" All the Italians who wanted to leave Sudan did so , they were transferred to Djibouti , some Emergency volunteers and some missionaries remained in the country". Thus the Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani , arriving at the foreign affairs council and in the aftermath of the difficult evacuation of the almost 150 compatriots trapped in Khartoum , the scene of a chaotic and bloody war fought in the heart of a metropolis of five million inhabitants.

A very complicated rescue mission that kept everyone in suspense, and with an expected arrival "in Italy with an air force flight around 18:30-19:00 at Ciampino airport", added Tajani. "Everyone is fine, I want to thank those who participated in this difficult operation," added the foreign minister. «I have remained in contact with the leaders of the factions that are fighting – he specified – they have respected the commitment to guarantee the safety of our convoy, I thanked them, this is a positive fact. It was a difficult, complicated and risky operation but everything went the right way».

Other compatriots are instead on board a flight organized by Spain, which departed from Khartoum with over 100 passengers .

Over the weekend , similar operations were also carried out by other countries that are rescuing their citizens in a conflict that has been pitting the army against the paramilitary for control of Sudan for nine days at the cost of hundreds of dead and thousands injured.

A scenario in which the recent blood count announced by the WHO appears increasingly incomplete, in which there is talk of at least 413 dead, including nine children, and 3,551 injured.
