A request for the "immediate surrender" of Carles Puigdemont was sent by the Spanish judge Pablo Llarena to the Court of Appeal of Sassari with the Eurojust system. Precisely on the basis of an arrest warrant from the same judge signed in October 2019 Puigdemont (who at the time had left Spain where he was wanted for sedition and embezzlement of public funds) was arrested in Alghero a week ago and then remitted at liberty from the same Court of Appeal which, however, asked him to return to Italy on 4 October for the hearing relating to his extradition.

LLarena, according to what is learned from the official statement of the High Council of the Iberian Judiciary, claims to have never withdrawn that 2019 arrest warrant, despite awaiting a response from the European Court of Justice to a request for an opinion on the possibility of success of this arrest order in other EU countries. In addition, the judge says that Puigdemont has lost immunity as a MEP by decision of the European Parliament itself: a measure that the judge of the Spanish Supreme Court currently considers valid.
