Between Italy and Germany there is "a long-standing cooperation. The important thing is to make progress for Europe and our two countries are fundamental for the success of this operation. We need close cooperation between our countries and we are in favor of agreement to strengthen it. We must deepen our relations and we want to restart intergovernmental consultations as soon as possible. We can do an excellent job ". This was stated by Olaf Scholz, on his first visit to Italy as chancellor of the German government.

Angela Merkel's successor was received at Palazzo Chigi by Prime Minister Mario Draghi.

"This visit contributes and confirms the depth of the bond between the two countries and it is our will to collaborate to face the great European challenges. One of the first themes is the need to accelerate European integration", the words of Draghi in the joint press conference after face to face in Rome.

The two leaders also talked about the fight against Covid. "There is still work to be done" and we must "proceed with maximum speed to the third administration of the vaccines", underlined Draghi.

For his part, Scholz, announced new restrictions in Germany: we are about to adopt, he said, "further restrictions for personal contacts, we must be very prepared as Omicron spreads rapidly in Europe. We must be ready, especially in Germany to the critical infrastructures that must be prepared for the emergency. We want to intensify vaccinations "and place limitations" also among individuals ".

"Hats off for the Italian commitment that it is giving a lot to do. And on the fight against

pandemic our countries have decided to speak with one voice ", concluded Scholz.
