Heavy rains and floods in Bangkok, nearly 4,900 displaced people in reception centers

Nearly 4,900 people have been evacuated to reception centers in Bangkok due to flooding caused by heavy rains in recent days.

According to the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), around 52,000 families have been affected by the floods, prompting authorities to declare a state of disaster in the Thai capital.

Some areas of the city received over 330 millimeters of rain between Thursday and today, according to the meteorological agency. Many residents have begun returning to their homes to try to dry their water-damaged homes and belongings.

Thailand is accustomed to rain during the monsoon season, with September traditionally among the wettest months. The 2011 floods, however, caused over 500 deaths and damaged millions of homes across the country.
