The Christian community of Mozambique in the crosshairs of Islamist terrorism.

A group of at least 11 Christians was massacred in the north of the African country, as reported to the pontifical foundation Aid to the Church in Need by Fra Boaventura, missionary of the Poor Brothers of Jesus Christ.

The killings reportedly occurred in the village of Naquitengue, near Mocimboa da Praia, in the province of Cabo Delgado.

According to the missionary, the terrorists summoned the population and then separated the Christians from the Muslims: "They opened fire on the Christians, riddling them with bullets."

The attack was claimed through a statement by a local group loyal to the self-styled Islamic State.
