The AfD won the regional elections in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, receiving 38.2% of the vote. The regional election office announced the result, as reported by the German news agency dpa. The SPD came in second with 35.5%. Die Linke (6.5%) and the Greens (5.7%) also entered the regional parliament, while the CDU (4.9%) collapsed, just missing the electoral threshold, like the BSW (4.8%). This was the CDU's worst result ever in a regional election in the history of the Federal Republic. Consequently, the AfD will receive 32 seats in the new parliament, the SPD 29, while Die Linke and the Greens will each have 5.

The numbers are no longer sufficient to revive the red-red coalition; the most likely scenario now is the formation of a red-red-green coalition. The Greens have already declared their willingness to participate in such a government. The AfD has not found a government partner and, despite being the most voted political force, is destined to end up in opposition.
