In the draft agreement between Washington and Tehran, Iran commits "not to produce or acquire a nuclear weapon," a senior Iranian official told Reuters, which reported the news on its website.
The draft stipulates that details on how to manage Iran's currently existing enriched uranium will instead be discussed within a 60-day period following the preliminary agreement between the parties.
- Also according to what has been learned, in addition to the issue of Tehran's renunciation of nuclear weapons, the main points of the memorandum that is being possibly finalized between the US and Iran are:
- the immediate reopening of Hormuz by Iranian forces to commercial shipping and the lifting of the maritime blockade applied in the area by the US;
- the temporary suspension of sanctions imposed by Washington on Iranian oil;
- US green light for the unfreezing of $25 billion in frozen Iranian assets;
- a halt to the continuation of Iran's nuclear program until a definitive agreement is reached and the United States' acceptance of the condition that Iran would dilute its enriched uranium stockpiles on its territory, in a manner to be determined within 60 days.
The signing of the agreement – as leaked – is expected to take place soon, without a face-to-face meeting between the delegations, but with the memorandum signed remotely.
