The axis between Moscow and the Kim Jong-un regime continues to strengthen.
This was reiterated by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, who was visiting Pyongyang to meet his North Korean counterpart, No Kwang Chol .
“Friendly relations between Russia and North Korea are expanding in all areas, including military cooperation ,” Belousov said during the meeting, Tass reported.
The Russian Foreign Minister's visit to North Korea comes as thousands of North Korean soldiers have been deployed to Russia to support Kremlin troops fighting in the conflict against Ukraine.
This deployment – as stated in a resolution just approved by the European Parliament – marks, together with the Russian tests of new ballistic missiles, «a new phase of the war». For this reason, in the same resolution, the EU Parliament is considering further sanctions in sectors of particular economic importance for Russia.
In recent days, however, the G7 foreign ministers stated in a joint statement: "We are seriously concerned about the deployment of Democratic People's Republic of Korea troops in Russia and their use on the battlefield against Ukraine. North Korea's direct support for Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, in addition to signaling Russia's desperate efforts to compensate for its losses, marks a dangerous expansion of the conflict, with serious consequences for European and Indo-Pacific security . We are working with our international partners for a coordinated response to this development."
