The global average temperature reached a new high on Monday, July 3, surpassing 17 degrees Celsius for the first time .

As reported by the BBC, the scientists say that the detection was the highest ever, the first measurements date back to the end of the nineteenth century even if the official ones began in 1979. The 17.01 degrees on July 3 beat the previous one record of 16.92 recorded in August 2016 . The high heat is due to a combination of the return of "El Niño" and carbon dioxide emissions.

Since earlier this year, researchers have become increasingly concerned about rapidly rising temperatures on land and at sea. Record spring heat in Spain and many Asian countries was followed by heatwaves in places where they don't normally occur, such as in the North Sea.

This week also in China there was a strong heat wave, while in the South of the USA there is a sweltering heat. And the new anticyclone arrives in Italy on Friday, which will bring temperatures in some inland areas of Sardinia to over 45 degrees .
