Macron enters the election campaign: «No to extremists, the rumors about my resignation are absurd»
The president at a press conference after calling early elections for 30 June and 7 July«The masks have been falling off since Sunday. It is a proof of truth."
Thus President Emmanuel Macron who, after the shock of the dissolution of the Assemblée Nationale and the calling of early elections for 30 June and 7 July, makes his official entry with a press conference in the electoral campaign at the Pavillon Cambon Capucine, in the center Paris.
The first reference is to the openness of the secretary of the Républicains, Eric Ciotti, to an alliance with the Lepenist far right which won the European elections: «You can see the difference between those who defend their own interests and those who defend the common ones», he chanted Macron. After the results of the European elections, «the political situation required a dissolution, only the dissolution allows things to be clarified».
Macron then accused the left-wing radicals of La France Insoumise of "creating constant" and "worrying" disorder in the Assemblée Nationale by making "the action less legible and preventing the building of stable coalitions".
He then hypothesized an expansion of the government to include moderate forces : his majority, he said, must "go and dialogue with personalities and forces that are not part of it today." Macron's objective, according to what emerges from his words which appeared yesterday in Le Figaro Magazine, would be to "reach out to all those who are ready to enter the government".
The early political elections, Macron continued, are "an act of trust in our people", a "historic moment for our country", in a context in which "the forces of the far right are around 40%". Something that “we cannot ignore,” he continued. The priority today is "the protection of our republican values". So the appeal to all those who have "known how to say no to extremes", be they far right or far left, which represent a risk of "impoverishment" for our country.
When questioned about his possible resignation, the French president ruled out this possibility absolutely : "I want to put an end to this rumor, which never existed," said Macron, calling it "absurd." “I listen to everything they say about me… the election took place in 2022 for 5 years, and it's clear.”
