Reports of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip denied . Al Arabiya sources had reported that Hamas and Israel had agreed to a 60-day truce based on the so-called Witkoff document, the US special envoy to the Middle East . But the news was quickly denied.
Only Israel signed the document proposed by the US, the terms of the agreement "do not satisfy us", Hamas said .
“Israel’s response essentially means the perpetuation of the occupation, the continuation of the killings and the famine, even during the period of temporary truce, and does not respond to any of our people’s demands, including the cessation of war and famine, ” said Bassem Naim, a Hamas leader in exile , adding, however, that “the movement’s leadership has examined, with great sense of responsibility and patriotism, the response to this proposal.”
The Witkoff document reportedly calls for a 60-day ceasefire, with US President Donald Trump guaranteeing Israel's commitment . It stipulates that Hamas release 10 live hostages and the bodies of 18 others on the first and seventh days, and that aid be sent to Gaza . It also calls for negotiations to begin on a permanent ceasefire. The aid is to be distributed by the United Nations and the Red Crescent, while the handover of hostages is to take place without public demonstrations or celebrations, the document says. It would also release 125 Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences.
