The death toll from the floods in Nepal is rising: local police have announced that the death toll has risen to 584 and over 2,400 are missing. As of the evening of August 28, the death toll stands at 579, with another 5 on the Chinese side. The missing in Nepal are 1,924, including over 517 foreigners. At least 558 are missing on the Tibetan side.

Among the 517 foreign citizens, in addition to three Italians, there are 178 Indians, 65 people from the United States, 53 from Ukraine, 51 from Malaysia, 35 from Australia, 33 from the United Kingdom, 25 from Canada, nine from Singapore, eight from Germany, eight from Russia, six from South Africa, six from Latvia, five from Japan, five from New Zealand, four from France, three from Belgium, and three from Spain. There are also two citizens of Kazakhstan, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, and the Netherlands, and one citizen each from Sweden, Hungary, Serbia, Switzerland, Israel, the Philippines, Finland, Belarus, Lithuania, and Bulgaria.

The post-disaster situation is also worsening, as the banks of the dam lake that formed in Nepal, on the border with Tibet, following Wednesday's devastating floods have collapsed.
