The English girl who had obtained Italian citizenship has died. Indi Gregory's death was declared during the night, as confirmed by her father Dean. The little girl, 8 months old, was suffering from a serious mitochondrial disease and her parents had waged a long battle to ensure that vital treatments were not interrupted as the UK courts had ordered.

“We are angry, heartbroken and full of shame – said Dean – The health service and judges have not only taken away her chance to live, but also the dignity of dying in her home”.

The machinery was removed on Friday and the legal battle waged by Italy for a transfer to Bambino Gesù in Rome proved useless.
