The cruise ship Mv Hondius with the hantavirus outbreak ( WHAT IS IT ) will dock on Saturday on the island of Tenerife in the port of Granadilla de Abona and the foreign passengers will be evacuated to their respective countries of origin.

Spanish Health Minister Monica Garcia announced this at the press conference following the inter-ministerial meeting at the Moncloa stadium on the health crisis.

The 14 Spaniards traveling on the ship will be screened in the Canary Islands and flown to Madrid, where they will remain in quarantine at the Ulla Hospital in Madrid.

"We will be particularly careful about safety, we will protect the people arriving, but we will also adopt the necessary public health measures, so that, if any symptomatic people are present, they do not transmit the virus to the population," added Garcia, explaining that the Spanish passengers "will remain in quarantine at the Gomez Ullà Military Hospital in Madrid."

Meanwhile, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the WHO , published a post on X, which reads: «The risk to global public health associated with the appearance of a hantavirus outbreak on board the MV Hondius remains low at this time».

"The Organization continues to work with the ship's operators to closely monitor the health of passengers and crew, and is working with countries to ensure adequate medical care and evacuation if necessary," Ghebreyesus concluded.
