The tension between China and the island of Taiwan, claimed by Beijing, remains very high.

Eight Chinese military jets have in fact violated Taiwanese airspace in these hours: an act of "provocation" on the occasion of the bilateral meeting in Rome, on the sidelines of the G20, between the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The defense ministry of the island reported the incident in a statement, reporting that a Y-8 ASW, six J-16s and a KJ-500 were used.

In meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Blinken reported that the United States opposes actions taken by Beijing, which have increased tensions in the Taiwan Strait and any unilateral act that changes the status quo.

In recent months there have been repeated incursions of this type into the skies of Taiwan by the Air Force of the People's Republic.
