New shadows on US American forces.
According to an investigation conducted by the New York Times, the United States allegedly hid a raid conducted in March 2019 in Baghuz, the last stronghold of Isis in Syria, in which dozens of civilians, mainly women and children, were killed.
For the first time, however, the same American authorities - in particular Central Command - have admitted that eighty people died in the attack.
The NYT revealed what happened in the minutes preceding the raid and the "panic" that started in the following minutes, when the American forces realized the mistake.
No independent investigation has ever been conducted into the incident. From what we learn, the raid was carried out on the recommendation of the so-called "Task Force 9", or the special operations unit of which the elite Delta Force commando belongs.
The New York Times sent the conclusions of its investigation to Central Command. The latter, for his part, explained that the raid "was justified".
Two bombs dropped, which allegedly killed 16 ISIS fighters and four civilians. For the
another 60 people involved it is not clear whether they were civilians or not, given that women and children in ISIS often have weapons.
"We hate the loss of innocent lives and take all possible measures to prevent them," said Captain Bill Urban, a spokesman for Central Command.
