Coup d'état in Burkina Faso, a West African country, where the president, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, was allegedly captured by mutineers after a night of shootings and riots in the capital Ouagadougou.

The soldiers, as confirmed by local media, have asked Kaboré to sign his resignation within 72 hours: in the next few hours they will release an official statement.

Residents in the neighborhood near the president's residence confirm that they heard high-intensity gunshots in the night: several armored vehicles of the presidential fleet would be riddled with bullets, one stained with blood.

In the past few hours, the government had denied the rumors of an ongoing coup caused by soldiers in revolt who asked for more support in the fight against Islamic militants.

In recent months, frustration has increased in the country due to the frequent killings of civilians and soldiers by militants, many of whom are linked to the Islamic State and al Qaeda.
