"He called me in tears, saying 'I'm dying'". This is the story of Antonio Luiz Macedo, personal doctor of Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, hospitalized in recent days in Sao Paulo for an intestinal obstruction and discharged yesterday after careful medical checks at the Vila Nova Star clinic, without however being forced to undergo at surgery.

In an interview with the newspaper O Globo, Macedo told of the leader's call when the first symptoms appear.

According to the doctor, the case "was dangerous". "He called me crying with pain. He told me: 'I'm dying, Macedo. Things are bad,'" said the surgeon.

"The pain is terrifying. It's like someone hitting hard with a hammer in the belly," Bolsonaro added in the call.

Bolsonaro's problems date back to 6 September 2018, when in Juiz de Fora, in the state of Minas Gerais, during the electoral campaign that would later lead him to the presidency, he was stabbed by a protester. Since then, Bolsonaro has undergone six surgeries.

"His situation is always dangerous," Macedo continued in the interview. “When we inserted the tube, a liter of gastric juice came out of his stomach. If he threw up, the liquid would get into his lungs and he would die. "
