A new accident prevention and safety model was presented today in Sassari at the Formedil headquarters. The initiative is jointly sponsored by Formedil - the Single Agency for Training and Safety of Northern Sardinia and INAIL, the Sardinia Regional Directorate. "It is divided into two phases that will last approximately four months," said Marco Foddai, vice president of Formedil Nord Sardegna, opening the conference on the program, "and aims to achieve the goal of achieving zero accidents in the workplace." Approximately 50 companies in Northern Sardinia are involved in the project, which will include an informational and awareness-raising phase and a practical phase with activities on construction sites to achieve a virtuous model. Also participating in the project are Ance Nord Sardegna, the trade unions Feneal-Uil, Filca-Cisl, Fillea-Cgil, supervisory and prevention bodies such as Spresal ASL of Sassari and Gallura and the Territorial Labor Inspectorate of Sassari, the Cassa Edile del Centro Nord Sardegna, and the main local stakeholders.
"We have contributed more than €20,000," says INAIL regional director Alfredo Nicifero, "and each year the agency allocates €400,000 to Sardinia for similar activities." "Awareness and Action for a Network on Accident Issues and Risks in Construction," an acronym for Cantiere, aims to develop a shared prevention model for construction sites, starting with the local community and involving businesses, technicians, workers, and institutions. Among the stakeholders, Francesco Planetta of Ance highlighted the need for businesses to have concrete tools to combine safety and efficiency, while the social partners focused on the critical issues that persist on construction sites. Gianni Olla, general secretary of Feneal-Uil Sardegna, reports, for example, that "the sector needs qualified labor, which unfortunately is lacking." There are 10,000 workers in the Sassari area, some of whom work in suboptimal conditions, as revealed today by the activities suspended in the province by the Carabinieri due to violations in the workplace. "We must finally understand," says Erika Collu of Fillea-Cgil, "that safety is not a cost but an investment."
