This morning, Councilor for Personal, Family, and Community Wellbeing, Maria Grazia Salaris, represented the municipal administration at the Local Health and Social Care Conference of the Sassari Local Health Authority (ASL) No. 1. The meeting was an important opportunity to extend best wishes to the new leadership, but above all to ensure institutional cooperation and openness to discussion.

"The new management undoubtedly faces a huge task," says Councilor Salaris, "but it's essential to address emergencies immediately. The Emergency Department is experiencing serious strain, especially during this period. Mayor Cacciotto and the entire Administration are ready to do their part in a fruitful collaboration with the Local Health Authority, and we hope this new beginning will represent a decisive step forward in the management of the city's healthcare system."

Councilor Salaris emphasizes how the closure of the maternity ward starting in 2023 is an open wound for the community and reiterates the need for Pediatrics and Cardiology to resume 24-hour care, following the reduction in hours that has limited their effectiveness. Regarding the shortage of primary care physicians, which is creating difficulties for many families, three new doctors are expected to arrive in September, as recently announced by the commissioner.

"Among the urgent matters is also planning the construction of a new residential care home, which is essential to adequately address the aging population," the councilor adds. "As for the Marino hospital, however, the transfer procedures to the Local Health Authority (ASL) remain unclear, especially regarding the necessary human and professional resources. The city needs certainty and adequate services, so we are calling for the immediate opening of a technical-operational discussion with the Local Health Authority and the Region to define timelines, resources, and responsibilities."
