With off-road vehicles on the dunes. A fter having crossed the wooden walkway reserved for pedestrians, two motorists driving a Jimny Suzuki and an Audi Q5 arrived a few meters from the shore, leaving the vehicles parked above the dune cordon on the Maria Pia coast, between the Baia dei Venti establishment and the La Conchiglia restaurant.

It happened on Saturday night and a report was received by the command of the barracella company of Alghero led by Captain Riccardo Paddeu. Two patrols went to the scene, identified the violators and had the vehicles removed. A fine has been imposed for the violation of the prohibition of access to the beaches with motor vehicles envisaged by the whale ordinance (from 100 to 1000 euros in fine).

Furthermore, the Maria Pia dune system represents an area of high landscape and naturalistic value and just recently the municipal administration had carried out a restoration intervention on the trees and wooden pedestrian walkways to facilitate access to the beach. «In 22 years of service, a situation like this had never occurred to me - admits Captain Paddeu - certain behaviors can also have consequences of a criminal nature, since the crime of damaging the dune system could be configured for which penalties ranging from from arrest up to two years and a fine from 15,000 to 51,000 euros».
