The juxtaposition is unprecedented in the history of the wind assault on the Island of Sardinia. Up to now we have seen everything and more, but never before has a multinational, in this case Spanish, resorted to "gastronomy" to convince the Sardinians of the "goodness" of that outrage that they would like to place in the middle of the sea, on the western coast of the Island, between Alghero and Tharros, passing through S'Archittu and Bosa.

The "caballeros" of Madrid

The “caballeros” of Madrid, those of the multinational Acciona, a very expensive partner of Abbanoa's bills in the management of Sardinian water, in presenting the offshore wind project have decided to place alongside the Spanish brand none other than that of the University of Gastronomic Sciences of Pollenzo, a Piedmontese village in the province of Cuneo.

Culinary art

The culinary art experts, led by Carlo Petrini, patron of slow food, “lend” the university-gastronomic brand to support Acciona in the climb to the Sardinian sea, the western one, with three-hundred-meter-high shovels to stick like “daggers” on the proscenium of the Oristano coast, forever scarring the enchanted horizon of the Sinis beaches, crossing the scenery of Tharros.

Forgetful

They, the “caballeros” of Madrid, know nothing of the history of this museum-coast, or worse, they pretend not to know. In the offshore wind project, branded by the Gastronomic University, they have omitted, without a fight, even the name of “Tharros”, as if that treasure of millenary history had never existed. A sort of new “damnatio memoriae”, like annihilating history to try to mislead the impact of those gigantic wind turbines in front of the Sinis. Wind turbines three hundred meters high that, as is understandable to those not easily fooled by cheap lies, will be clearly visible from every corner of those white cliffs and pure quartz beaches that dot the entire coast.

Enclave of history

The enclave that contains the thousand-year history of an Island, from the Nuragic settlements to the Phoenician emporium, from the Carthaginian fortress to the Roman city, passing from Byzantine capital to Arborea capital, they have completely omitted. Unlike the Americans of JP Morgan, who have even given the name of «Nora» to the US outrage planned in the Gulf of Angels, the people of Madrid have limited themselves to one line: the Mistral plant «does not conflict» with the protected area of Sinis.

Sardinians, no talking allowed

They are the ones who decide whether or not to oppose, pursuing a consolidated design strategy: no one in Sardinia can have a say in what we do beyond twelve miles. For them, the marine horizon is not a unique asset, it is not a landscape value, and this is why the only terrestrial “attentions” are reserved for the connection between the offshore plant and the hinterland of the Riviera del Corallo, involving the municipal territories of Ittiri, Bessude, Putifigari and Alghero. The strategy implemented by the Spanish, for example, ignores every archaeological emergency on the Oristano coast, eluding the devastating impact that the offshore wind farm would have on the Sinis peninsula. In short, they try to hide the evident damage in their design, with the modest tactic of pretending nothing is happening.

Front Title

The only faint reference to the Oristano side is in the title of the project: «Offshore wind farm called "Mistral" to be built in the body of water of the Sardinian Sea facing the coast of the provinces of Sassari and Oristano and related works». In the documents presented to the Ministry, only the numbers speak for themselves: «"Mistral" project consisting of 32 wind generators with a total power of 480 megawatts». For the rest, absolute silence.

Upcoming Deadlines

A project, however, on which the spotlight of public opposition is about to turn: the Ministry of the Environment, which has not stopped the authorization procedures in any way, has in fact set the deadline for observations-oppositions for September 4th. Thirteen days to understand who will oppose the outrage, including the coastal municipalities that have been deliberately excluded from the procedure, but above all the Region called to the first test of facts in front of a project that does not stop. It is evident that the contrary opinion would constitute a fixed point also for all the other offshore projects, despite the agreement officially given two months ago by the Sardinian Region to the Decree on suitable areas that clumsily contemplated the construction of offshore plants.

One million inhabitants

In the presence of the Sinis, then, we will also have to deal with the Germans of “Regolo Rinnovabili” and their 34 blades in the middle of the sea. In total, therefore, there will be 66, for almost a thousand megawatts, enough energy for almost a million users. For them too, Tharros, the Sinis, the history and the landscape of that coast do not exist. Business, gastronomy and billion-dollar incentives come first.
