Heaps of rubbish everywhere near the sea, campers parked for days in front of the beaches and no respect for the provisions of the Municipality of Aglientu.

This is the situation of the Rena Majore beach and the mayor of the Gallura coastal centre, Antonio Tirotto, has decided to close the access to the parking lot of the beaches, one of which was chosen for the filming of the Disney film The Little Mermaid.

Tirotto says: «We found cars and campers parked on the dunes , on the precious junipers and they left us the souvenir of tons of rubbish abandoned on the coast and in the parking areas. Awareness campaigns, adequate billboards and demonstrations for the protection of the environment were not needed. Provisionally it is necessary for the good of nature and the good name of the Community of Rena Majore to protect this corner of the coast from the indiscriminate access of jackals without love for nature. For the winter period, natural ornamental granite sculptures will be positioned which will protect the area closest to the beach, obviously citizens and residents will be able to continue to freely use the coast".

Until the beginning of November numerous campers were sanctioned , but it was all in vain . Hence the closure decision.
